‘Tackling’ Flood Grant Applications - The Flood Advisory Service joined forces with Carlisle Rugby Club to help homeowners

The Flood Advisory Service joined forces with Carlisle Rugby Club to provide a ‘one stop shop’ offering free advice & practical help with completing flood grant applications.

The Flood Advisory Service is a ‘not for profit’ organisation providing FREE Independent advice on practical flood mitigation solutions where it matters most, at the heart of at risk communities.

It has already completed a Roadshow around the UK offering flooding advice and support and on Friday 24th March, from 10am to 7pm, the team was on hand at the Rugby Club on Warwick Road in Carlisle to help homeowners.

They were supported by Flood Angel, the UK’s leading product manufacturer and Flood Professionals, surveyors & installers who are certified to BSI Kitemark standards.

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) was also be in attendance, helping provide support and guidance.

Flood Advisory Service Managing Director, Sarah Marriott commented:

“As the flooding of last year proved, when devastated communities pull together even the most difficult odds can be overcome and we are absolutely delighted that the team at Carlisle Rugby Club recognises this need for a partnership approach.  We want to remind residents that flood protection measures are worthwhile. The 9ft floods of winter 2015/16 were unprecedented. In general a flood will peak at under 4ft and homeowners, supported with the £5K Flood Resilience Grant, CAN take measures to protect their properties. But time is running out to claim the grant so we want this event to raise awareness”.

David Morton, Secretary of Carlisle Rugby Club commented:

“Here at the Rugby Club we clearly witnessed first-hand the devastation flooding brings. From our position at the heart of the community we want to be sure we’ve done everything we can to help & support local residents who have been affected. When we were approached by the Flood Advisory Service to run a ‘Flood Resilience Grant Awareness’ day we were only too happy to help and provide a venue for the event”.
