Flood Advisory Service roadshow in York on Thursday 5th May

Following the devastating storms that hit York over the winter, when hundreds of properties were flooded, City of York Council has been working closely with The Flood Advisory Service to ensure homeowners and businesses can easily access the advice and information they need before, during and after a flood.

The Flood Advisory Service, a ‘not for profit’ organisation providing independent advice on practical flood mitigation, will bring their 40ft, state of the art Roadshow Trailer in to the city. The roadshow will be located in the Morrisons, Foss Islands Road Car Park between 10.00am & 6.30pm on Thursday 5th May.

The Flood Advisory Service, City of York Council and Environment Agency staff will be available to answer questions on specific flood risks in and around York, direct people to support, advice and funding and support people through the process of signing up for flood warnings or making their homes or businesses more resilient and resistant to flooding.

Councillor Andrew Waller said “The council have worked since the floods to identify and support all those affected in the devastating events of Boxing Day, we are pleased to bring the Flood Advisory Service to the city to support our work. The roadshow will be a great opportunity for flooded residents and businesses to hear and see first hand how they can take steps to make their home and possessions more resilient to future flooding.”

Flood Advisory Service Managing Director, Sarah Marriott commented:

“It was clear given the severity of the flooding situation in York, the Flood Advisory Service was perfectly placed to provide information, advice and support the community was looking for. City of York Council was really proactive in securing the help of the FAS to support their local residents. The Morrisons team has been similarly helpful, much like they were when the floods hit back in December and the store became a community hub for residents”
