Re Flood Advisory Service

With the threat that climate change poses, flooding is set to become a more regular occurrence. It is essential that Communities at risk of being flooded are engaged with in every possible way!  Working within the heart of at risk communities, in partnership with all agencies who work together to reduce the risk of being flooded, along with all the tools and information needed to support both individuals and communities seems a very sensible and innovative option! For engagement to work, it is essential that it is sustained and that trust is built.

I feel very passionately that everyone should work together to support those who live with the threat of being flooded.  I have been flooded myself and have worked with many individuals and communities who have experienced the horrors of being flooded; I know only too well what an appalling experience being flooded is! When my neighbours and I all flooded during the ‘Great floods of 2000’, there was no help, support or advice available and we had to cope alone. The Flood Advisory Service will be a great way to highlight flood risk and to advise on how to mitigate against it, working in the heart of the community, where it is needed most!

Knowing your flood risk, planning, preparing and mitigating against being flooded is vital and I look forward to working with you on this initiative!
